In Memory of Dr. Fiona Ray & Mr. Danny Smith

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;

-William Wordsworth, “Odes of Immortality”

This month, we saw two bright stars in our field die. While I did not know them well, their reputations were impeccable, and they were shining stars in our community and, as such, deserve to be recognized by us.

My heart goes out to the friends, family, and colleagues of Dr. Fiona Ray, LMFT PsyD, the CEO of Visions Adolescent Treatment Center and Co-Founder of Casa Bella Recovery Services. She was a leader in the field, and while our paths crossed briefly on one case, I was so impressed by her clarity, energy, and knowledge. May her legacy live on. To read more about this amazing lady, check out her obituary here.

And, my heart also goes out to fellow interventionist Mr. Danny Smith, the founder and CEO of Alchemy Interventions and founder of Ceano Health. Danny made a remarkable impact on our field, and I always knew that clients were in excellent hands with Danny and his team. To his wife, Melissa, and to his children, friends, family, and colleagues, I offer my deepest sympathy.
